Dr. Leann Johnson at Windsor Audiology takes great pleasure and thoroughly enjoys helping patients reconnecting to friends and family on their journey to better hearing. Hearing aids are indiscreet, advanced technology that is keeping pace with the technological advancements of the 21st century. Some models can connect to your phone allowing you to make minor changes based on the environments you are in, turn the volume up and down, answer phone calls or stream your TV directly into your hearing aids. Others are so small they fit completely in your ear. There is no one-size-fits-all treatment or product that will address every patient’s unique hearing loss, comfort level, health, and hearing lifestyle. You would not go to an online seller to get diagnosed and treated for diabetes or dentures, so why would you entrust your hearing health to anyone but a qualified professional? It is our passion to guide you to better hearing. Allow Windsor Audiology to help you make an educated decision regarding the right hearing technology to better your quality of life. Contact our Northern Colorado office today to schedule a consultation for yourself or a family member interested in learning more about the latest in hearing aids as a new solution or improvement on older, existing hearing aids.
Windsor Audiology changed my life…
“Dr. Johnson was amazing. I had no idea what I was really missing until she had me try out some hearing aids. My wife and kids were telling me “Dad, get your ears checked” consistently and I was like “I will… I will…” Dr. Johnson and Windsor Audiology changed my life. I can hear the crack of the bat when my daughter hits a home run. That is life-changing.”- R.R. Carr, CO 80612
Hearing Aid Consultations
If you have never used a hearing aid before or an old pro that wants to look into new technology, the first step is to schedule a hearing examination and consultation in our office. You can visit our Hearing Evaluation page to learn more about why a hearing test is necessary, but in summary, knowing what you can and cannot hear is important, for your memory (untreated hearing loss aids in the development of cognitive decline), for your family and friends and for their sanity as well. Dr. Johnson will first perform a video otoscopy to get a clear image of your outer ears health, shape, and function. This is done to make sure that there is a clear path to the eardrum. If there is blockage of some kind; wax, skin, dirt debris or foreign object, that will need to be removed prior to your hearing test. This will help to ensure valid and reliable results. During your hearing evaluation you will be asked to sit in a soundproof booth (don’t worry if you are claustrophobic we have a booth with big windows) and then you will hear a series of beeps (that is when you push the button, but only when you hear the beeps). After that Dr. Johnson will ask you to repeat some words for her. This gives her an idea of how much speech you are actually understanding. This is very important since you may be hearing sounds but not understanding or comprehending them.
Dr. Johnson will then take all of the information that she has obtained in the consultation; your lifestyle, budget, insurance coverage (if any), your hearing loss, physicality of your ear, and present you with an individualized treatment solution.
Hearing Aid Fittings
Whether you are a new hearing aid user or old pro, we will make sure that you are comfortable with your new hearing devices during our fitting process. You will have your new hearing aids fit specifically to you. With today’s advanced digital devices, ensuring proper programming and sound levels is a must. Our audiologist, Dr. Johnson, will verify your hearing prescription with a small microphone that measures the output of the hearing aid in your ear. Our entire team will make sure your adjustment process is smooth and simple so you feel comfortable and confident in your new hearing aids
There is an adjustment period when you are fit with new technology. There may be a lot of things that you have not heard in awhile. We know you are excited but we want you to take it slow and adapt to your new hearing abilities a little bit at a time or you may become so overwhelmed that you just take them out. We counsel patients to take time getting used to the hearing aid. It is necessary to attend all follow-up visits that are recommended by Dr. Johnson. We want to make sure you are completely comfortable with your new hearing aids. Your hearing journey is a process and Dr. Johnson and her team are here for you every step of the way.
